While at the Home Depot this weekend I noticed an orange and green trash can and being curious I decided to see what it was all about and to my surprise I was happy to see that they will recycle Compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs). You already know that these light bulbs are energy savers and they do require special recycling and it’s great to hear that Home Depot will take care of this for you. All you need to do is bring your CFL bulbs to any Home Depot store and dump them into their bright orange and green collection box located near the front of the store and yes they do accept any brand of CFL bulbs. You are already doing your part to save energy with these great light bulbs, now you can take it to the next step to save the environment by recycling them.

Are you looking to earn some extra money and helping mother earth at the same time? Well if you are lucky enough to bank at Citizens Bank, then you can join up for their program called Green Sense. The program works as follows; Citizens Bank will pay you 10 cents every time you pay without paper – like when you use your debit card, pay a bill online, or have an automatic payment charged to your checking account or debit card. You can earn up to $120 a year! Now we know this particular bank isn’t located nationwide, but we wanted to give kudos for the good deed they are offering and we would like to hear more stories like these. Perhaps there is a local bank or other type of business that is rewarding customers for going green. If you have a story, please leave a comment and we will be sure to publish it on our website.

Is your mailbox looking a little lighter these days? Well you can thank the companies and banks you deal with for that as you have probably helped the cause and joined them in using paperless statements. Now all you need to do is check your e-mail daily or monthly to see your balance and make payments with out having to open any snail mail or even better yet shell out money for the cost of a stamp. Over the past year, paperless statements have caught on so much that those companies are now charging customers a flat rate to get statements via snail mail due to their paper and postage costs. The one thing we have yet to see is if companies will in turn lower any fees that they typically pass onto the customer for using paperless statements so stay tuned for that or better yet give them a call to see if they will pass down any additional savings for this service. So if any of the billing companies or banks you deal with offer paperless statements we urge you to take part in this so that you can feel better about saving paper and better yet you save on postage.
